Bernard Mason, 89, professor emeritus of history, died on Wednesday, July 22, in Littleton, Mass. A scholar of colonial America and early 19th century U.S. History, Mason joined the faculty at Binghamton in 1960 and retired in 1988, then served as one of the University’s earliest Bartle professors for the 1988-89 academic year. An avid reader of the New York Times, Mason remained active in his discipline, including as a member of the American History Association. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, son Derek, daughters Jennifer and Valerie, and three grandchildren.
