Binghamton University Libraries are committed to providing safe, comfortable and accessible spaces where all are free to engage in study, learning and research.
Visiting the Libraries
Protecting the health and safety of everyone continues to be our guiding principle. Per the University’s Fall 2021 Guidance:
- Fully vaccinated individuals on campus need to wear a mask in all areas within the library but do not need to be socially distanced.
- Unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear masks and socially distance themselves in accordance with CDC guidelines.
- Hand hygiene stations are available at the entrance of the Bartle and Science libraries as well as the UDC building.
The Libraries’ will make adjustments as necessary based on any updated information, and in accordance with guidance from public health and government authorities.
Library Hours
Beginning Tuesday, August 24, the library hours for each location will initially be as follows:
- Bartle Library: 8 a.m-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and noon-8 p.m., Saturday-Sunday.
- Science Library: 8:30 a.m-5 p.m. Monday-Friday; and closed Saturday-Sunday.
- University Downtown (UDC) Library: 8 a.m-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; and closed Saturday-Sunday.
Beginning September 13, library hours will be extended – visit Library Hours for more information. Hours are subject to change.
Study Spaces
Different types of study spaces are available throughout the Libraries. We have quiet study, group seating areas and reservable group study rooms. Visit Group Study Rooms and Study Spaces for more information.
Collections
The Libraries have an extensive online and print collection to support teaching, learning and research. Our Find It! Discovery Service is a single-search box that provides a dynamic “one-stop” discovery and delivery service to the Libraries’ online and print collections. Visit our subject guides to learn about resources by topic.
Special Collections and University Archives
Special Collections and University Archives will be open to researchers by prior appointment from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Contact speccoll@binghamton.edu. Walk-ins to view exhibits are welcome during those hours.
Course Reserves
Physical reserves are available at Bartle and UDC libraries at the Reader Services desk. Books will continue to be sanitized between uses. Electronic course reserves are available by logging directly Library Course Reserves or your course in myCourses.
Technology Lending Program
The Libraries’ technology lending program will be back this fall!
Ask A Librarian
Librarians provide research assistance virtually via chat and email – visit Ask A Librarian. The services will be available 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Wednesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday–Friday, and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
Digital Scholarship
Our Digital Scholarship Services create a community of practice for research and creative activities. Consultations and in-class sessions are available this fall and may be requested through this form. The Libraries’ Digital Scholarship Center located in Science Library 209 is available by reservation and during selected hours in the fall. To make a reservation request, submit using this form.
