Homecoming

With a fresh perspective from our new Libraries’ Dean Andrea Falcone and Bartle’s fully renovated third floor on the horizon, the future of the Binghamton University Libraries is bright. Homecoming activities present the opportunity for library professionals to hear stories and anecdotes shared by alumni about their academic experiences and build on that momentum. This type of engagement keeps the Libraries ‘moving at the speed of Binghamton!

This year the Libraries hosted two events with Dean Falcone at Glenn G. Bartle Library on Saturday, October 14. Libraries’ Special Collections offered an exhibit on the Theatre History Collection as well as a display of student publications from the University Archives. Librarians from the Outreach and Instruction department hosted an interactive event called Bagels and Buttons that offered light fare and the chance to hand press a Binghamton themed spirit button. Here are a few of the alumni who shared their morning with us:

Upon meeting Dr. Naveen Shetty ‘13 , one can immediately imagine how he met and likely exceeded rigorous academic demands he took on in both Biology and Economics at Binghamton. But his true Bearcat spirit shined when in a later conversation, he said that he worked as a Safe Ride driver with the University Police where he says he experienced, “Long nights, but I met some interesting people.” Naveen returned to Bartle during Homecoming because of the East Reading Room on Bartle’s ground floor. The quiet study room is where he says, “I learned how to be at peace in the quiet and focus without distractions.” Naveen’s dedication and adventurous spirit brought him to the fine achievement of finding his dream job as a physician.

John Wasilenko ‘90 stopped by Bartle while his daughter was finishing up the Wenzel Memorial 5k. John reflected on homecoming as a good opportunity to be involved in enrichment activities. Mr. Wasilenko caught up on some history at Watson’s 40 years of Innovation celebration and enjoyed visiting with fellow alumni and current students.
