New Exhibit Commemorates 150th Anniversary of the Civil War

When Johnny Comes Marching Home: Selections from the Civil War Collections of Binghamton University Libraries’ Special Collections

To commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War, Special Collections will be displaying a selection of materials from its Civil War Collections. Also displayed are a number of publications relating to the Civil War in New York State from the Local History Collection.The American Civil War took place from 1861–1865. New York was among the states that fought against the Southern Confederacy and, although no battles were fought on New York soil, the state sent much money and men to support the war. Binghamton University Libraries’ Special Collections Civil War materials consist of sixteen collections of letters, diaries, photographs, and other ephemera dating from the early 1800s through the early 1900s but centering on the Civil War years.This exhibit will be on display in Special Collections on the second floor of the Bartle Library through the Spring 2011 semester
