The following statement was shared with the campus community on March 24, 2025 via Dateline on behalf of the STAR Award committee.
Nicki Chanecka, director of library administration, received the STAR Award last week. The award, given monthly, recognizes outstanding service by faculty and staff members within the Binghamton University community.

Colleagues Nancy Abashian, Barb Cotroneo, Andrea Falcone, Allison Gilli, Fran Sala and David Schuster nominated Chanecka, praising her as a compassionate and selfless employee with deep institutional knowledge and “infectious positivity.” Schuster wrote, “Her ability to resolve problems, add humor to a situation, de-escalate issues and provide the empathy people need at critical times are her keys to success. She goes out of her way to make people feel appreciated and welcome. Her cross-departmental knowledge and history within the community provide her with connections with people to get things done.”
Chanecka received a letter from President Stenger, a check for $100, a special coffee mug and a STAR pin.
