Photo by Jonathan Cohen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another accomplishment can be added to the legacy of Beat Generation poet Allen Ginsburg: \u201ccourage teacher\u201d of Maria Mazziotti Gillan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is the one who taught me to have the courage to write the way I knew I had to write,\u201d said Gillan, professor of English and creative writing. \u201cHe taught me to say, \u2018Maybe people don\u2019t need another English romantic poet. Maybe it\u2019s OK to write as an Italian-American.
