It is the story of a family struggling against all odds\u00a0in &#8220;the Cabbage Patch,&#8221; an old Louisville slum &#8220;where ramshackle cottages played hop-scotch over the railroad tracks.&#8221; This hopeful story follows the Wiggs as they face eviction from their dilapidated house and take in two orphanage fugitives.<\/p>\n<p>Film adaptations of the book include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1914 film) (page does not exist)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0004365\/\"><i>Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch<\/i><\/a>, a 1914 silent film starring Blanche Chapman<\/li>\n<li><i><a title=\"Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1919 film)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0010490\/\">Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch<\/a>,<\/i>\u00a0a 1919 silent film starring\u00a0Marguerite Clark<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1934 film)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0025523\/\"><i>Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch<\/i><\/a>, a 1934 film released by Paramount Pictures starring W.C. Fields<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1942 film)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0035094\/\"><i>Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch<\/i><\/a>, a 1942 film also released by Paramount Pictures starring\u00a0Fay Bainter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Special Collections&#8217; 1928 copy of the work comes from the McLaughlin Collection and\u00a0is a photoplay edition referring to the fact that it is a movie tie-in book.\u00a0Most photoplays \u00a0were reprints of novels and appeared prior to the movie release in the hopes one would read it promptly or save it for right after viewing the film.<\/p>\n<p>Would you like to know see more of the 480 photoplay editions from <a href=\"http:\/\/slipknot.binghamton.edu\/?p=collections\/controlcard&amp;id=27\">the McLaughlin Collection<\/a>?
