{"id":2799,"date":"2015-10-14T13:38:18","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T13:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/news\/specialcollections\/?p=2799"},"modified":"2015-10-14T13:38:18","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T13:38:18","slug":"bringing-civil-war-collections-to-researchers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/specialcollections\/2015\/10\/14\/bringing-civil-war-collections-to-researchers\/","title":{"rendered":"Bringing Civil War Collections to Researchers"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2801\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2801\" style=\"width: 717px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/news\/specialcollections\/files\/2015\/10\/Isaac-Lawson-Hughes.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2801\" alt=\"Isaac Lawson Hughes\" src=\"http:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/news\/specialcollections\/files\/2015\/10\/Isaac-Lawson-Hughes.jpg\" width=\"717\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2801\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Student worker, Isaac Lawson Hughes, works to scan and create metadata for some of the Libraries&#8217; Civil War collections.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Materials from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/libraries\/special-collections\/researchandcollections\/civilwar.html\">Libraries&#8217; Civil War Collections<\/a> will be soon made available to researchers thanks to a 2015 Regional Data Bases and Interlibrary Resources Sharing (RBDB) Program grant\u00a0from the <a href=\"https:\/\/scrlc.org\/\">South Central Regional Archives Council (SCRLC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project plans to digitize four of Binghamton University\u2019s Civil War collections: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/libraries\/special-collections\/researchandcollections\/findingaids\/civilwar\/Casey_FA.pdf\">The Patrick Casey Collection<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/libraries\/special-collections\/researchandcollections\/findingaids\/civilwar\/Treyz_FA.pdf\">The Joseph H. Treyz Collection<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/libraries\/special-collections\/researchandcollections\/findingaids\/civilwar\/Stone_FA.pdf\">The Francis M. and Henry H. Stone Collection<\/a>, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/libraries\/special-collections\/researchandcollections\/findingaids\/civilwar\/Brown_FA.pdf\"> The Lewis Brown Collection<\/a>.\u00a0Also included in the project will be the transcription of these materials.<\/p>\n<p>Once digitized the digital images of the letters and diaries, as well as their transcriptions, will be available\u00a0via BU Libraries&#8217; Find It! and through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorkheritage.org\/\">New York Heritage Digital Collections<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/dp.la\/\">Digital Public Library of America<\/a>&#8216;s web sites.<\/p>\n<p>This project will allow for much wider access to unique primary materials which currently may only used on location in Binghamton University\u2019s Special Collections.
