Bartle Library.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Photo by Jonathan Cohen<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Book reveals rare fore-edge painting<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Beth Kilmarx, curator of rare books at the University Libraries, was going through the Special Collections closed stacks one afternoon last December when she came across an unusual looking book.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Kilmarx noticed that the book\u2019s fore-edge, the side opposite the book\u2019s spine, was a shade darker than the other edges.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\u201cI saw the discolored gilt edge,\u201d Kilmarx said, \u201cand when I bent the leaves to find the cause of the coloring, I saw the painting!\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Read the rest of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/inside\/index.php\/inside\/story\/book-reveals-rare-fore-edge-painting\">article here.<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Book of Common Prayer, with its disappearing fore-edge painting of the ruins of Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire, is stored in the Special Collections section of the Glenn G.
