Binghamton University Libraries Special Collections holds copy number eighty-one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/news\/specialcollections\/files\/2014\/01\/allen-ginsberg.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2138\" alt=\"allen-ginsberg\" src=\"http:\/\/libnews.binghamton.edu\/news\/specialcollections\/files\/2014\/01\/allen-ginsberg.jpg\" width=\"403\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the most respected Beat writers and acclaimed American poets of his generation, Allen Ginsberg enjoys a prominent place in post-World War II American culture. He was born in 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in nearby Paterson. The son of an English teacher and Russian expatriate, Ginsberg\u2019s early life was marked by his mother\u2019s psychological troubles, including a series of nervous breakdowns. In 1943, while studying at Columbia University, Ginsberg befriended William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac, and the trio later established themselves as pivotal figures in the Beat Movement.\u00a0Ginsberg is best known for his epic poem &#8220;Howl&#8221;, in which he denounced what he saw as the destructive forces of\u00a0capitalism\u00a0and\u00a0conformity\u00a0in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about Allen Ginsberg <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allenginsberg.org\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To see and read our library&#8217;s copy of\u00a0<em>New Year Blues<\/em>, visit Special Collections, located on the second floor of the Glenn G.
