Instead, the 2011 Binghamton University graduate was focused on the future.<\/p>\n<p>Messavussu, who teaches math and science at MS 254 in the Bronx, brought 24 of his middle-school students to Binghamton on June 20-22, to give them a first glimpse of college life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they leave here and get on the bus, I hope they are intent on going to college,\u201d he said. \u201cI want them to think \u2018I will go to college,\u2019 not \u2018I may go.\u2019 I keep stressing that college is for everybody. There is so much to study. \u2026 And hopefully, they\u2019ll come to Binghamton University.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Messavussu, fellow teacher Eva Zanio and the mostly seventh-grade students spent their time learning about the University and touring campus. They stayed in Rafuse Hall and ate meals in the Susquehanna Room. Students particularly liked the campus architecture and were impressed by the size of the campus, Messavussu said.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each day, the students took part in a \u201cvideo reflections\u201d activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a way for us to help the students capture the memories of coming here,\u201d Messavussu said. \u201cSo we record them talking about their experiences and what they thought of their day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For many students, the trip to Binghamton was not only their first time on a college campus, but also their first time outside of New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of a campus is foreign to them,\u201d said Messavussu, who is called \u201cMr. Brice\u201d by some of his students. \u201cThey were amazed by the East Gym and the Susquehanna Room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/inside\/index.php\/inside\/story\/alumnus-gives-middle-school-students-a-first-look-at-campus\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; by Eric Coker Brice Messavussu\u2019s recent return to campus wasn\u2019t about reminiscing with friends about the past.
