Materials from the Libraries’ Civil War Collections will be soon made available to researchers thanks to a 2015 Regional Data Bases and Interlibrary Resources Sharing (RBDB) Program grant from the South Central Regional Archives Council (SCRLC).
The project plans to digitize four of Binghamton University’s Civil War collections: The Patrick Casey Collection, The Joseph H. Treyz Collection, The Francis M. and Henry H. Stone Collection, and The Lewis Brown Collection. Also included in the project will be the transcription of these materials.
Once digitized the digital images of the letters and diaries, as well as their transcriptions, will be available via BU Libraries’ Find It! and through the New York Heritage Digital Collections and the Digital Public Library of America‘s web sites.
This project will allow for much wider access to unique primary materials which currently may only used on location in Binghamton University’s Special Collections. It will limit further physical handling of these materials thus ensuring their long term preservation. This project will also draw awareness to the fact that Binghamton University has Civil War collections within its holdings.
