TDM Studio is an advanced text and data mining tool offered by ProQuest to run analysis of large text datasets with Python or R. There is also a beta feature in development that integrates GPT access within their platform. (FAQ details here).

To support TDM Studio, the Libraries recently expanded access to ProQuest’s historical newspapers. This includes access to over 150 newspapers across 5 major categories:

  • US dailies (i.e. Atlanta Constitution, Christian Science Monitor, Detroit Free Press)
  • Regional state newspapers (i.e. Arizona Republic, Minneapolis Star Tribune)
  • Black newspapers (i.e. Cleveland Call & Post, Los Angeles Sentinel)
  • Canadian newspapers (i.e. Montreal Gazette, Toronto Star)
  • International newspapers (i.e. Jerusalem Post, Hindustan Times)

ProQuest’s premium historical and current newspaper content, government documents, theses/dissertations, and journal citations are fully minable via TDM Studio. All recently added newspapers are searchable and discoverable in FindIt too.

From 1 – 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 the Libraries will be hosting a two-hour in-person demo and work session for TDM Studio in the Digital Scholarship Center on the 3rd Floor of Bartle. Their representatives will be on campus to walk us through emerging TDM research use cases in areas like economics, finance, political science, and sociology. They will be highlighting the features of the tool and want to help kickstart your research project.

Please register your interest by filling out this form with your Binghamton email address, department, and status. We’ll be sending brief account creation instructions a few days prior to the session so it’s as productive as possible for everyone. Come ready with ideas and questions!
