Libraries’ collection development news: Fall ’24

Student looks at the new book shelf in Bartle Library.

The Binghamton University Libraries continue to expand and evolve our collections to better support the University community. Here are the latest developments this semester that have an impact on publishers, journal access and data-forward resources.

Five-year transformative agreement with Wiley

Starting Jan 1, 2024, Binghamton authors who publish research articles in Wiley journal titles will have their research made openly accessible at no cost to the author or their grant funding. This will increase the global visibility of research conducted by our faculty and students, as studies continue to prove that articles published in an openly accessible manner receive two to three times the readership and up to twice the citations of their paywalled counterparts. Since the license began, 17 Binghamton authors have already benefited from this additional service provided through the Libraries primary journal subscription.

Please be aware that there is an article cap limit that increases with each year of our license based on our historical publication trends with Wiley. While the Libraries are hopeful that this limit will cover all Binghamton Wiley-related research within a given year, articles will be reviewed and approved by the Binghamton Libraries based on a first-come, first serve basis after the manuscript is accepted for publication. More information about Binghamton’s transformative agreements (which also includes all ACM, Cambridge and IOP journals) can be found on our website.

Expanded access to Taylor & Francis humanities and social science journals

Over the summer, the Libraries negotiated a deal with Taylor & Francis to expand access to the most current journal content for approximately 1,400 journals, known as the Social Science & Humanities Library. All of the newly available journal titles and articles are now discoverable in FindIt! and on the Taylor & Francis journals platform

Access to Sage’s Research Methods Books/Reference module

To further support undergraduate and graduate research at Binghamton, the Libraries now provide access to Sage Data Planet & Sage Research Methods – Books and Reference. Sage Data Planet saves time and effort by providing a single platform to quickly find, explore, visualize and share datasets from the most trusted source providers. Sage Research Methods provides access to over 1,300 eBooks and reference texts that provide quick research methods definitions to comprehensive explorations of concepts and methodologies.
