The new academic year is underway, and it is refreshing to see the campus come alive with energy and excitement as new students explore the campus, returning students reunite with friends and reconnect with each other. The Libraries are particularly excited for the year ahead as we continue to embrace our mission of providing “the University with high-quality collections, services and spaces for research and academic achievement.”

To that aim, our priorities include a commitment to facilitate exemplary student learning experiences, infuse technology into our core services and spaces as well as future-proof the Libraries.

Facilitate exemplary student learning experiences.
We have made big strides to increase our impact to all students including starting the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program and providing specialized services for graduate students that continue to grow each semester. Additionally, the Libraries received the Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award which recognizes our exemplary commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and is infused in all that we do to enhance student learning.

Infuse technology into our core services and spaces.
This year, especially, will see great technological improvements to our spaces as we eagerly prepare for the opening of the newly renovated third floor of Bartle Library. The new space will allow students, faculty and staff to discover new knowledge through collaboration and technology in our Digital Scholarship Center, Data Studio and MakerLab.

Future-proof the Libraries.
As much as technology will propel us into the future, it is equally important to look at how we preserve and maintain our physical collections so that they are long-lasting and accessible. The Libraries’ latest undertaking opening the Collections Management Facility (CMF) is a prime example of that effort.

Whether we serve as a space to concentrate individually or collaborate with other scholars, partner in your research or provide technology that helps display your findings, assist you in one thing or many things, I invite you to connect with the Libraries; we will be an active collaborator in your academic journey. On behalf of the Libraries, I wish everyone a happy and prosperous year and look forward to welcoming you in our tech-enhanced spaces and connecting you with our expansive research collections.
