The Libraries have continued to grow to include some exceptional people to our team this past fall! This spotlight of our new hires shares a little about each of them as we welcome them to the Libraries and the Binghamton community.
Matt Gallagher (he / him)
Director of Collection Development
Matt received a Bachelor of Arts for Individualized Study at New York University, a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science at Long Island University and a Masters of Arts in History at Rutgers.
In higher education, Matt has worked as an audiovisual cataloger at Rutgers, the collection management and metadata librarian at USciences, and the eResource acquisitions and licensing librarian at Penn. Previously, Matt was a business manager for celebrities and a royalty accountant for a record label in NYC. Matt enjoys identifying trends in how users interact with library collections in order to ensure they have access to the most relevant content at all times.
Personal interests include hiking, travel, Sci-Fi / fantasy and concerts in most forms. Fun fact: Matt is a dual US-Italian citizen!
Maggie McNeely (she / they)
University Archivist
Maggie did their undergraduate studies in various arts and humanities at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. They self-designed a major after taking a bit of everything, which turns out to be a good start for a librarian or archivist. Maggie earned their Masters in Library and Information Science with a concentration in archives management from Simmons College in Boston, MA in 2004.
Before accepting the position at Binghamton, most of Maggie’s professional experience had been at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, where they worked in various archivist roles from 2005-2022. They have mostly worked in post-WWII university records and history, and still loves the subject area.
Maggie likes to draw and paint, explore antique and junk shops, and hike in the woods. They have recently become an inadvertent gardener after purchasing a semi-neglected property in Binghamton. Maggie also spends a lot of time adoring and pandering to their dog, Phoebe.
Sasha Frizzell (she / they)
Catalog / Metadata Management Librarian
Sasha joined the Binghamton Libraries as the Catalog / Metadata Management Librarian in September 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Library Science, with a concentration in Local and Archival studies, from PennWest Clarion.
Prior to moving to Binghamton, Sasha was a Cataloging Librarian for the library at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia, where she led projects to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in descriptive metadata throughout the catalog.
Her current research includes practical applications of linked data in libraries and metadata for cultural heritage repositories. Outside of the library, she spends her time playing construction and management simulation video games and hanging out with her cat Taco Belle.
