The Libraries’ Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) was established in 2021 to ensure every employee ― from student worker to staff and faculty ― receives support to feel successful in their pursuits. In addition, the Libraries seek to build community and encourage collaborations with Binghamton students, staff and faculty and beyond. The office’s work includes sharing informative resources and developing related initiatives.
The inaugural recipient of IDEA’s student worker scholarship is Yazmeen Marte, a human development major from the Bronx. Her career goal is to empower communities through increased access to children’s mental health programming. Her ultimate travel destination is Bali, Indonesia. Marte is passionate about the global implications of local social justice movements and said, “My favorite thing about working at Bartle is being surrounded by uplifting staff and peers, but also finding amazing reads.”
