Lena Horne

Lena Horne, star of stage, cabaret, and screen, died recently at the age of 92. Born into a distinguished family, and with an actress mother, Horne had a frustrating film career. Due to the racism of the day (1940s-1950s), she was mostly limited on screen to small scenes that could be edited out of films when shown in theaters in the south. She was featured in the films Cabin in the Sky, Panama Hattie, among others, and sang Stormy Weather in the film of the same name. Stormy Weather became her theme song. Her last film role was Glinda, in The Wiz. The latter half of her career was filled with cabaret, television and stage appearances. Some books and DVD’s featuring Lena Horne are listed below.
