The Value of a Dollar includes the actual pricing of thousands of items that consumers purchased from the Civil War to the present, along with facts about investment options and income opportunities. Topics cover the gamut, from the wages of firemen in 1870 ($1.73 a day) to the cost of a loaf of bread in 1924 (9.5 cents), to the fixed 30 year mortgage rate in 2000 (8.06%).
