Author Svetlana Kim delivered the keynote address for the Library’s 2009 celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. She discussed her new book, “White Pearl and I: A Memoir of a Political Refugee,” which describes her journey from Korea to the United States and her rise from poverty to a successful career as a stockbroker.
Svetlana Kim, who arrived in New York in 1991, was inducted into the Asian Academy Hall of Fame in 2008. She shares this honor with former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao and former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta.
