Increase in Foreign Language Study

In November, the Modern Language Association released a report showing that enrollments in foreign language courses at U.S. institutions had increased by approximately 13% since the report was last done in 2002. Spanish, French and German still account for ca. 70% of total enrollments, but American Sign Language has now moved into 4th place, with a 30% increase over 2002. Languages showing the most significant increases are: Chinese (51%), Korean (37%) and Arabic (127%).
