Over the summer, the Libraries undertook several key infrastructure and interior enhancement projects across essential facilities. Beyond aesthetic upgrades such as new carpeting and furniture, these initiatives provide an opportunity to improve resource accessibility, support diverse learning styles through versatile study accommodations, and integrate innovative technologies throughout the spaces.
Science Library
A new accessible service desk will allow guests to easily connect with expert librarians and provide face-to-face assistance. Flexible seating throughout the space helps accommodate different learning styles and focus settings while newly installed acoustical paneling assists with keeping noise levels manageable throughout the collaborative and individual work spaces offered.
In direct collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences and Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, specific technology will be incorporated throughout the space that directly compliments in-class instruction. A new learning lab will feature an Anatomage table that will allow students to digitally study the human anatomy and clinical procedure simulations. Anatomical models on display will also provide a physical resource for students to use onsite.
Exploration of the natural world has always been a component within the Science Library. Intentional curation of the furniture includes pieces made from 100% recycled material and focal pieces that showcase natural light throughout the space.
A refreshed information commons will be available with updated computers and printers that will provide support for students for their academic needs as well as a book scanner. Some technology will also be available to check out including laptops, portable charger banks, and cable connectors like HDMI cords and traditional wall chargers.
The Science Library is open during semester core hours and will see these upgrades throughout the fall semester.
Bartle Library North Entrance
The entrance to Bartle Library North was renovated to optimize the space for collaborative study. Updated carpeting and reconfigured collections modernize and brighten the interior. The open layout enhances natural lighting from outer windows, while a variety of new furniture options accommodates diverse working styles throughout the area.
Call numbers M-MT have been moved permanently to the 4th floor of Bartle Library to ease accessibility to those items. The microfilm reading room has been moved to a larger space within the 1st floor and provides a more private area to search and view those items.
Bartle Library North Entrance is expected to open and return to semester core hours by Monday, September 14. Upgrades will continue throughout the fall semester as the new furniture becomes available.
